Design Meetings

An exploration of different aspects of design culture through the perspectives of the designers.
Dialogue with designers allow for an exchange of experiences and viewpoints that broaden ideas and knowledge

Meet the designer. Gianluca Ferullo

What brings you joy as a designer?
What are three essential qualities for a good design?

It’s always exciting to see how something born from your thoughts, the initial, idea, transforms into something concrete.
A good project must be simple, functional and light

Michelangelo bookcase
Visual lightness and the best of functionality

Flexible modular system to create your customized bookcase

How did you envision the Michelangelo bookcase?

The inspiration comes from a quote by Leonardo “What is simple is beautiful”.
This bookcase was conceived with the idea of creating an extremely versatile piece of furniture, capable of adapting to any context and offering the utmost freedom of customisation to the customer

Minimal design and eclectic appeal

Dark and light tones and materials with a natural, textured finish

What is the ideal home style for the Michelangelo bookcase?

I think that, precisely because of its modularity and aesthetic versatility, it can be a universal piece of furniture that adapts to different styles

Open shelves bookcase and the object you love the most become pieces of art

Ordinary shelves can become, with a thoughtful approach, a stunning focal point in the living room

In your ideal home which materials do you prefer for this piece of furniture?

The contrast between metal and wood leads to various aesthetic solutions, which is also why Michelangelo was designed this way. I really like the dark tones and materials with a natural, textured finish

Aiming for balance and symmetry

You might want to distribute visual weight by grouping similar items or repeating objects on different shelves. The bold ones, may want to play asymmetry for a more dinamic rule

Molly armchair

Cocooning
The perfect blend of essential design and great comfort

What inspired you in the design of Molly armchair?

My inspiration was an embrace, a gesture that evokes protection and warmth.

Molly comes with a different shape compared to the more traditional idea of an armchair. What type of décor is it suited to?

It’s an archetype – simple and instantly recognisable, yet with a delicate design.
It’s a versatile piece that can harmonise with various settings
By playing with the colours of the fabric, it can take on either a modern or more classic look

How important is the study of the ergonomics in your design process to ensure comfort of use?

Objects should be designed with people in mind so they can be appreciated and enjoyed.
It is crucial to understand how people interact with the object, and an armchair, in addition to being beautiful, must also be comfortable

Is there anything else you would like to share about this armchair, that you consider important?

This project is very close to my heart because, although simple, it has a recognisable aesthetic, and this outcome is the result of experimentation and a close dialogue with the company
